Assisted living facilities in Kansas are commonly known as Assisted Living Facilities, Residential Health Care Facilities, and Home Plus. Assisted Living Facilities and Residential Health Care Facilities in Kansas are similar in that they both offer care to 6 or more individuals unrelated to the owner. Home plus offers care to no more than 12 individuals unrelated to the owner.

Housing is provided and a range of services and activities are offered at these facilities.  Personal care or supervised nursing care is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Each facility must have sufficient staff for the needs of its residents as well as a full-time operator.

In the Assisted Living Facilities, each apartment must include at least 200 sq. ft of living space. This does not include bathrooms, closets, or alcoves. Each apartment must have its own bathroom with a toilet, lavatory, and bath/shower. All bathrooms must be accessible to disabled residents. 

Residential Health Care Facilities are to offer individual units with at least 100 sq. ft of living space. Home Plus facilities do not have requirements on square footage but on general interior and bedrooms. A Home Plus may take over a wing of another adult care facility. No less than 5 beds and no more than 12 beds may be provided. The Home Plus must remain separate from the adult care home. However, the two facilities must be kept contiguous.
