Known as Assisted Living Services Agencies and Managed Residential Communities in the state of Connecticut, these agencies provide service and care for the residents of the managed residential communities. With clients of primarily 55 and older, a high level of independence is encouraged. However, nursing services and help with daily activities are available.

In a managed residential community, the living arrangements consist of a group living atmosphere. Housing and services are offered to residents with chronic and stable conditions. Meals, laundry, transportation, housekeeping, and other services are included.

Each private unit in a managed residential community must contain a full bath, adequate access to facilities, as well as the tools to prepare and store food. While no square footage instructions are in place, common areas must be able to hold at least 50 percent of occupancy at any given time. Although each unit is private, tenants may share rooms if desired. Connecticut has no rules on how many residents may share a room.

A supervisor for services must be appointed to each assisted living services agency. They are to make sure there are enough assisted living aides to properly care for the residents.

There are 3.56 million people living in Connecticut, with an average age of 41 years. Residents ages 65 and over make up over 17% of the population of the Constitution State. With many popular cities such as Bridgeport, New Haven, and Stamford, Connecticut is also home to major colleges like Yale, The University of Connecticut, and Quinnipiac.
