Assisted living facilities in the state of Arkansas are classified as Level I or Level II assisted living. Level II assisted living facilities are required to have a registered nurse on staff, while Level I facilities are not. However, home health services can be administered by a certified home health agency for a short period in Level I.
In both Level, I, and Level II facilities, assisted living services are provided to 3 or more residents for a period of 24 hours or more. Assistance in all activities of daily living is given. In addition to this assistance, residents may receive 24-hour supervision by staff and medication assistance. 3 meals per day should be made available as well as support to acquire emergency care 24 hours a day. Transportation, linen service, and social and recreational activities may also be provided.
Each unit must contain a minimum of 150 square ft per resident. 230 Square ft is required for shared rooms. 2 person maximum per unit. Units should be kept to single occupancy with the exception of husband and wife or 2 consenting adults who have requested shared living. Every unit or apartment must have a bathroom, complete with a toilet, sink, and shower/bath.
Level II facilities must have distinct parts or wings of the building dedicated to those residents receiving a nursing home level of care. They must be kept separate from other residents who don’t require this sort of care.
